House Judiciary Committee Reports Constitutional 
Amendment to The Floor of The House


By invoking a suspension of rules (in particular, 48 hour deadlines and delays between votes), Speaker Joe Souki engineered a constitutional amendment to ban same-gender marriage out of the House Judiciary Committee by an 11 to 4 vote. We expect a floor vote this evening.

P.S. The Hawaii Equal Rights Marriage Project, HERMP, is the sole support of the work of Dan Foley on Baehr v. Lewin (Foley is the attorney who makes all court appearances on behalf of the plaintiff couples).
