Legislative Stalemate Continues
The leadership of the Hawaii Senate has announced that it will not hold hearings on the House's constitutional amendment to ban same-gender
marriage. Rey Graulty announced this Thursday night on television, and the Honolulu dailies reported the story on Saturday. It is expected
that the Hawaii House will refuse to hold hearings on the Senate's domestic partnership bill. Is this really it, for this legislative session? Speaker
of the House Joe Souki was quoted as saying that it wasn't over until it is over. The legislative session is scheduled to end the first week of May.

The Hawaii Equal Rights Marriage Project, HERMP, is the sole support of the work of Dan Foley on Baehr v. Lewin (Foley is the attorney who makes
all court appearances on behalf of the plaintiff couples). Please be generous in support of
HERMP; Hawaii is a small state, and the tiny gay and lesbian
community here is very active in advocacy work which HERMP cannot address.
