Day 7 Of Baehr V. Miike (September 18)

Dr. David Brodzinsky of Rutgers University testified on Wednesday, Sept. 18.  He is a well-regarded expert in developmental psychology with a speciality in the field of adopted children and families, and has given expert testimony in several famous trials.  He testified that gays and lesbians can be fit, capable and loving parents.   Sexual orientation (gay or heterosexual) is not an indicator of the fitness of the parent. Dr. Brodzinsky  sees no reason (and finds no research) that gays and lesbians shouldn't be allowed to marry.  In his professional opinion, such marriages should be allowed.

Dr. Brodzinsky reiterated numerous times,  despite Deputy Attorney General Eichor's best efforts to trip him up, that the quality of the parenting, the warmth and loving nature of the parent-child relationship, are the first and most important issues to be recognized and that the structual confines of the household (such as number of parents, gender of the parents, or sexual orientation) is a very small issue when determining the optimal environment for raising a child.
